About the Author/FAQs

CHRIS EVANS is single. He was born in Canada and by law began playing hockey at the age of three. He now lives in New York City where he enjoys running in Central Park, ordering the #1 at the Gracie Mews for breakfast, and apparently retains some of his Canadian accent though he can’t hear it. He’s a historian as well as an editor of military history and current affairs books including the highly successful Stackpole Military History Series. Oh, and still single. Just saying.

Q. Any advice for an aspiring writer?
A. Write, read, learn and apply, then repeat. Don’t kid yourself that all the note taking and thoughtful contemplation is the same as writing. You need to research and think, but you also need to write day in and day out. There is no substitute for writing.

Q. Do you recommend any writing groups online?
A. Check out www.onlinewritingworkshop.com

Q. I guess being an editor made it pretty easy for you to get published, but what about the rest of us?
A. Only if easy means about ten years of hard work. The way to make getting published easy is to write every day, read, learn, and apply. And when you do finish your first book, start writing the next one. Who you know won’t matter one iota if your book isn’t good. However, if you do want to increase your knowledge of publishing, go to your local bookstore or library and sit down for an hour with a copy of Writer’s Market Place or some similar type book. You’ll find out which agents represent what, which editors buy what, and how to submit your work.

Q. Who represents you?
A. Don Maass of the Donald Maass Literary Agency in New York City. www.maassagency.com

Q. Where do you work and what do you do (when you’re not writing?)
A. I edit history, military history, current affairs and conflicts books for Stackpole Books. www.stackpolebooks.com

Q. When’s the next book in the series coming out?
A. In North America it will be Summer 2009 and the third installment will be Summer 2010. In the UK the first book is out September 2008 followed by Fall 2009 and Fall 2010.

Q. When does A Darkness Forged in Fire go on sale?
A. July 8, 2008 in North America and September 1, 2008 in the UK. The Science Fiction Book Club edition will be the alternate featured selection in August 2008.

Q. I’d like to get a signed copy of the book, how can I do that?
A. Great question…I’m still working on the answer.
